Smart Bookkeeping was started by Donna Coulston in 2003 to help North Shore, Rodney and Hibiscus Coast businesses proactively manage their accounts. Since then, we’ve worked with a variety of businesses across a range of industries, allowing busy business owners reclaim their time for the things that matter to them most.

Meet the team

Donna

Donna started Smart Bookkeeping in 2003 after a career managing accounts payable for large organisations such as Dick Smith and Canon. With the rise of online accounting technology, she saw a need to provide bookkeeping support to small businesses and better bridge the gap between accountant and business owner to provide more practical, hands-on advice and training. One of her favourite things about her role is to help overwhelmed business owners solve problems and achieve a sense of clarity and order in their business. Donna is a Certified Xero Advisor, a member of the NZ Bookkeepers Association and she’s continuously learning and upskilling with technology and systems to help clients run their business smarter.

Ann

I came to live in NZ in 2012, relocating family and dog from Glasgow, Scotland.  About 6 years ago I was given the opportunity to join a small bookkeeping firm and I have never looked back.  I enjoy working with a variety of clients, learning about their businesses and more importantly, understanding and supporting their needs.  I thrive on challenges and problem solving but for me it’s all about developing relations. I am a Xero Advisor along with payroll and I am also a Certified Booked with the ICNZB.  When I am not working you will find me on the golf course on a Saturday and when the season and weather permits, teasing the fish in the river with some nifty looking wee fly on Sunday.  I am also a lover of vintage fashion.   


Marijose

As a young student I always excelled at Maths, so pursued Business Studies at tertiary level in Spain. I relocated to London where I lived, studied and worked. During my time there I studied to improve my English language skills and also gained a Certificate in Business Administration at Lewisham College. It was there that I met my kiwi husband. We moved to New Zealand as our little family grew and have lived here since. While in New Zealand I have continued to study and have completed courses in Introduction to Accounting, MYOB, Xero, Advanced Excel and Payroll at Glenfield Community College. I am a Xero Certified Advisor and have my black certificate as a certified bookkeeper with the Institute of Certified NZ Bookkeepers.
